For the longest time now I've been fixated on finding a liquid eyeliner that gives the wet look. You know, like the eyeliner is forever wet looking though it actually is dry and will not smudge. Turns out a liquid eyeliner with teeny tiny silver reflects has the power to create an illusion of a moist eyeliner.
And I found all that for $6.99 (or less) with the LA Splash Liquid Eyeliner in Abyss.
Abyss is a black eyeliner with microscopic silver reflects. No glitter here, at least not in this shade. It is nothing like the Urban Decay Glitter Eyeliners. I'd say they are more on the lines of MAC Super Slick Eyeliners and can give it a run for its money any day ! The product comes in a really tall packaging. Most of the height is from the application wand. The brush is tiny and sharp - perfect to create defined, precise lines. Dry time - a mere few seconds ! Over all - a spotless record.
Check this out -
Round 1 : Super thin dainty line
Round 2 : Thick ferocious line
I've seen LA Splash at some of the Sally Beauty Supply stores. If you don't have one nearby you can check out their products on their website here

Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eye Liner Pencil : Review & Swatches
*****Update : New pictures added. Scroll down for eye makeup look with the eyeliners !*****
New drugstore eyeliners folks !!
New drugstore eyeliners in gorgeous shades !
New drugstore eyeliners in six gorgeous shades, creamy textures for $7.99 !
The new Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eye Liner Pencils follow in the colorful foot steps of the CoverGirl Smoky Shadow Blast Shadow Sticks as in each eyeliner pencil was made to match one of the shadow stick shades. The pencils are soft, apply like a dream, have good color pay off and come with a smudger tip a one end.
I'd rather call it eraser tip - in fact an eraser makes it more interesting to me. The eraser tip is a super handy tool for the winging obsessed. Sometimes you wing it too far and during such times you can use the eraser tip to lightly shorten the wing and voila things start to look much better !I tried three shades
Brown Blaze - a creamy simple dark brown. My favorite of the three. It has the best staying power along the waterline. I love wearing this with deep green mascara - total tree hugger combination but looks fantastic !
Violet Voltage - Very pretty deep violet. Surprisingly looked great against my NC40 tan skin and brown eyes.Green Glow - electric metallic green. Love love love. I wear this along the waterline and the brown along upper and lower lash line - the contrast is to die for ! But stay time along waterline is minimal - say 2-3 hours. Reminds me of Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Mildew.
These three shades are good. They really are but then there is one more super mega delicious shade that I simply must have. That divine thing is called Silver Spark - a metallic dark gray which could pass off as gray taupe. And I love gray taupe.
The other two shades are Black Fire and Blue Bloom. I don't know anything about them. But come July my CVS will start stocking these and I will start emptying the store of these.Overall I am very impressed and these are my new fave to recommend !
Eye Makeup Look With Brown Blaze
Here I have on brown blaze along the lower waterline. And Estee Lauder Color Bold Volume Lifting Mascara in Emerald on my lashes. You'd think the green'll look garish but nope. It looks just as soft as any other mascara - you can even wear it work ! And man, do they make brown eyes look browner !

Hard Candy Hot Smudge - Review & Swatches
At first glance its hard to miss how much these look like the Urban Decay Ink For Eyes Eyeliners. But I'm gonna throw this out there right away - I like these better than Ink For Eyes.
For starters the Hard Candy Hot Smudge comes with two shades and only costs $6. I tried Rebel - a bright blue and a clear primer with hint of sparkles. The brush that comes with the product is all I use. It is great to draw even a very thin line. The liner itself has a creamy texture but not very ultra creamy like Ink For Eyes. Those ultra creamy ones smudge and are not good for liner purposes. But this one works perfectly well as a liner and as a base for shadows.
They didn't smudge or touch my crease like the Urban Decay ones did. This is good stuff , man.
Overall for $6 this is so worth trying. Plus they are sold at Walmart - if you don't like the shade you tried you simply return it with the receipt. But take it from me - chances are you will only be going back to get more !

CoverGirl Smoky Shadow Blast Shadow Stick : Review & Swatches
Hiya Ladies !
Happy Monday ! How was the week end ??
Better than mine I hope !
Gettin on with beauty bidness - lets talk CoverGirl Shadow Blast Sticks. Its hard to resist these bright shades walking down the aisles of CVS. The orange/ bronze. green silver all beg to be bought and worn. And the ads for these only make one want them even more !
Each stick comes with two shades - one an eyeliner/crease shade and the other an all over lid shade. Nice concept and totally works if it weren't for the creasing. But then you already knew that. When I see creamy shadows the first thing I care about is creasing - no matter how adorable the color everything is ruined when I have goopy eyeshadow. One way to wear these is of course under powder eyeshadow - they do a good job of brightening the shadow when layered underneath. But even layering is tricky - so after applying the shadow blast runneth your finger over to remove excess. A thin layer aids the powder shadow stick better and avoid getting settled into lines.
Another thing is to use them as eyeliners - this is what I've been doing. The coppery shade that comes with the green is too cute with brown eyes. The sparkly black is great too ! But my super favorite is the one on the far right - the purple taupe. So so so very gorgeous. Given that they are so creamy / waxy they don't stay long on waterline but along the lash line they make for a good option.Overall - if you find em on sale give it a go ! Its hard to resist these colors. If not I hear CG has some new eyeliners out - time to try them !
Have you tried the CG Smoky Shadow Blasts ? You likey ? Is there a better way to wear them ?

Hard Candy Powder Keg Loose Shadow : Review & Swatches
Its New For Summer
The Hard Candy Powder Keg ($6) is part of their new summer collection. Other items in the collection include, matte powders, glitter / metal eyeliners, makeup train cases/ bags and cream eyeliners. Of all the products I was most curious about the powder kegs and the metal eyeliners. The Kegs are loose eyeshadow pigments made from pearlized powder. The have a wand inside which has a small bulbous sponge at the end of it. I love the design - its not big and messy. Plus when you pull the wand out the funnel inside takes care of all the excess pigment giving us just how much we need at one time.
Stays Put Well, Some Fallout
Given that its a powder I never expected it to stay on my waterline for more than 30 minutes. But four hours later there was still a huge portion of it sitting happy on my waterline. I applied it along my upper / lower lash line and waterline - doubles as both eyeliner and shadow. After application I used my finger to smudge it a bit. The powder is very silky so it blends easily but still is very pigmented. There is some fall out during application but that comes with all kohl kinda products. Remember to apply concealer after or use a shadow shield or simple a sticky tape under your eye prior application.Light As A Feather
One thing I must mention is that I had absolutely no discomfort with having this on my waterline. Most other powder kohl's I've tried like Tricia Sawyer Smoke & Mirrors give me this uncomfortable heavy feeling in my eye - like I most definitely have something in it. But this one was super light weight and zero discomfort. That being said if I was a beginner I might be a little overwhelmed with the fall out and technique to apply powder kohls...Overall for $6 its one heck of a product that I highly recommend. I am very curious to try out other shades. There are 11 other shades but I am gravitating more towards the darker ones like olive green, brown and purple. This gunpowder shade is something every brown girl should consider getting. I wore it during day and it still looked great. I'll have pics up soon. And girls with lighter skin tone could rock it at night !

Hard Candy Walk The Line Liquid Eyeliner - Dream Girl & Night Sky : Review & Swatches
Two more Hard Candy Walk The Line Liquid Liner Swatches. I wrote about Licorice (shiny black) & Praline ( brown bronze) a few weeks back. You can read all about them hereMy thoughts on these two are similar to the others I've tried - great for the price ($6). Great even otherwise. The only problem is the dry time. Between Dream Girl - yellow gold and Night Sky ( sparkling gray) , Dream girl dries in a few seconds while Night Sky takes a lot more time. That being said Night Sky is uber gorgeous - literally like a night sky with stars twinkling. Draw a fairly thick line for more its beauty to shine through. Dream Girl is too gold-y for me but when I do heavy looks I know I'll reach for it.
They are available at Walmart.

Hard Candy Walk The Line Liquid Eyeliner - Praline & Licorice : Review & Swatches
Hello !
Long time no see ...
Your girl here has been havin hella fun with her two best friends. I met up with one after two years. The last time I saw her , she was three months pregnant and now I got to meet her two year old boy ! More on that laterz...Lets get to matters of makeup.
Cheap effective makeup.
Cheap effective makeup that's available and Walmart.
Cheap effective makeup that's available at Walmart and costs all of $6 - The Hard Candy Walk The Line Liquid Eyeliner.
The two shades I tried were - Licorice & Praline.Licorice is more like oil slick - a shiny black with some blue green sheen / sparkle to it. Praline is a brown bronze.
The eyeliners are some brilliant stuff for the dough. They last all day without cracking or disappearing. Licorice takes a while to dry but once its dry - all is good. Praline has a lot more staying power than Licorice and is a great shade to venture into if you've stuck with regular blacks and brows. The eyeliner has a great brush that allows for the thinnest lines possible. The thin brush also allows to create cute, tiny little flicks. Only major issue for me was Licorice's drytime - foreva. So, I reach for Praline a lot more...
What's happening with you guys ? Anyone checked these eyeliners out ?

Nude Eyeliner For Women With Dark Skin Tone
More like nude eyeliner inspiration.
The moment I put up this look up I got several emails from y'all telling me how the nude eyeliner did not work on you because your skin tone was medium dark - dark.
A white eyeliner is traditionally used to make eyes look bigger and the whites of the eye, brighter. Nude eyeliner serves the same purpose as a white one. While white makes for a stark contrast against medium / dark skin tones , the nude eyeliner softens the look while still managing to make the eyes look fresher, bigger & brighter.
The key is to apply the nude eyeliner just on your waterline and make a thin line at that. The moment it becomes a thick line that runs from waterline onto the lash line - its starts looking odd and almost ghost like.
I use the Julie Hewett Pencil in Omit - its a concealer pencil but its the only one that stays put for real long on my waterline and looks natural on my skin tone (NC 40) . If you have fair / light skin try a white pencil - Julie Hewett Hue Pencil - Aurora. It will give you this angelic / snow bunny like look. Other nude eye color options are Stila Kajal Eyeliner - Topaz.
And if you are still not convinced, check out the gorgeous Rachel Roy. This talented lady rocks the smokey eye with nude eyeliner ! The absence of a dark eyeliner on your waterline makes a huge difference . It makes me look a lot more fresher and lot less made up. Perfect for day time !

Reader Question : How To Make Your Eyeliner Stay On All Day / How To Prevent Eyeliner From Smudging
This is one of my most asked questions so I had to get it answered on the blog ASAP ! Most recently this question came from reader Farheen Guys ! Any product recommendations you have or any tips please let us know about it ! We have have our own ways of dealing with makeup mishaps !
"Thanks for tackling the long wear makeup question. your answer was so help I used the tips you gave and I swear my makeup stays on 4 times longer at least!
The only thing i have noticed is this: when I apply pencil eyeliner on the bottom lid or waterline as they call it, it bleeds in half an hour all under my eye. it takes with it my under eye concealer and everything. I look like a panda! please help"
1. How can I make my eyeliner stay on along the waterline all day ?
We cannot. It is the waterline and eventually our eyes will get what ever is on it out.
Unless - the eyeliner you use on your waterline is waterproof and sturdy. Even then do not expect for them to stay on for longer than four to five hours.
2. Whenever I apply eyeliner on the waterline, they bleed out and I end up looking like I have dark circles at the end of the day.
I have plenty of tips that I follow to avoid this :
- Start off with a concealer. If you already have dark circles around the eyes - do not go for a heavy eyeliner look. It makes things look worse.
Instead apply concealer and mask those dark circles. Now we have an even toned surface to start with.
- Use a waterproof eyeliner pencil or creme eyeliner pencil along the upper lash line. Smudge it out a little bit. Now apply a thin layer of powder eyeshadow in a similar shade over it and gently smudge.
- Setting with a powder eyeshadow is essential to keep the creme eyeliner in place. Just as we set liquid / cream foundations with translucent powder , we need to set our eyeliners with powder eyeshadow for longer wear.
You can also draw a line along your lash line with a pencil liner. Go over it with a creme liner and finally set with eyeshadow if you want it stay put for 8 - 10 hours.
The lower lash line & waterline - these are mostly responsible for the dark circles look.
- Line your waterline with a water proof pencil liner. Make it just one layer - do not go over it multiple times.
Now close your eyes so the eyeliner gets transferred to the waterline along upper lash line - easy breezy tight lining. Go over the waterline again with a waterproof pencil liner. Make it just one thin line. The more you cram into the waterline the more the goop that gathers along the corners of your eye.
- Line the lower lash line, using a waterproof creme / pencil liner.
- Set it with a thin layer of powder eyeshadow. Gently smudge.
Apply flake free mascara. Finally apply translucent powder under your eyes.
That's it !
Key Pointers
Contrary to what one might believe applying a thick layer of eyeliner is not going to make it stay on longer.
Multiple thick layers in one go, along waterline is the worst because our eyes push the product out and we end up having a lot of messy liner issues. Instead apply a thin layer and reapply another thin layer when necessary.
Layering is key for long stay. A couple of thin layers set with powder stays on without smudging longer than one very heavy dose of eyeliner.
Keep Q tips handy.
Products That Work For Me
Estee Lauder Gel Eyeliner
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencils
Julie Hewett Too Good To Be True Eyeliner Pencils
Other Options
One other product I've tried is the Becca Eyeliner Compact. It comes with a product called the Sealant. The sealant literally seals the eyeliner and prevents it from smudging. If you are going for the kohl rimmed heavy eyeliner look, I wouldn't recommend this product because it doesn't have that effect to it. Its more of a gentle everyday liner.

Reader Question : How To Apply Eyeliner ? Tips To Apply Eyeliner
I've tried to apply eyeliner several times but my eyeliner always comes out looking crooked. Help ! - Doli
How do you get your eyeliner looking so neat. Mine never does - Katie
1. Don't apply eyeliner when you are in a hurry. When I am rushing my hands are usually a bit shaky and unsteady.
2. Make your hand steady by placing your elbow on a table.
3. Dot the area along your lash line and connect the dots for a perfect line.
4. Draw the line in small strokes starting from inner corner moving outwards.
5. Use a creme or gel eyeliner with an angled eyeliner brush. They are more forgiving than regular liquid eyeliner bottles.
6. Try a pen eyeliner with felt or brush tip. What ever makes your skirt fly !
7. If you did use a liquid/ gel / creme liner and your line got a little wonky - let it dry. Once its dry, run a bit of powder shadow over it and smudge it out. Nobody will notice a crooked line underneath and the double layers will keep your eyeliner looking fresh longer !
8. Draw a light line along your lash line using a pencil eyeliner. With this as your base, you can now apply a liquid liner over it.
Practice will make it perfect with time. Eventually you'll be a liner queen !
Guys ! What tips do you have on eyeliners ? Do you have a product that helped you master the technique ? Dish ...

Eye Makeup For Beginners - Chapter 1
Starting today I am working on a series of eye makeup posts for beginners. This series will mostly be a reflection of how I started out playing with eye makeup. They are simple eye looks to try out before going for a full on smokey eye.
I am hoping y'all will find it useful ! This and the next few others to come will be about playing with eyeliners.
There are several kinds of eyeliners in the market. There are gel eyeliners, creme eyeliners, liquid , pencil, powder eyeliners. For this look I prefer a liquid eyeliner. You can any others !
I used LORAC Front Of The Line Water Resistant Liquid Eyeliner in brown. It is now on sale for $10. Other liquid eyeliners I like are the ones from Prestige. L'Oreal, Revlon, Maybelline, NYC - everybody makes liquid eyeliners.
Brown is a great color to begin your eyeliner journey with. It is a little softer than black which might look too jarring if you're not used to seeing any makeup on your face !For this look
1. Start from the inner corner of your eye and line along the entire length of your upper lash line.
2. Start from outer corner of your eye and slowly draw a thin line half way along the lower lash line.
3. Start from the outer edge of lower lash line draw a small wing upwards and outwards - done.
Winging is always easy when you start form the lower lash line ad move upwards & outwards. And remember as you begin, keep the wing small to very small. Its always easier to elongate one. If its too long, use a Q tip dipped in water / makeup remove t wipe off the length.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner Pencils - Binge, Mildew, Oil Slick, Crash : Review & Swatches
The four new shades recently added to the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencil familyBinge - Metallic Navy Blue
Crash - Deep Plum with Silver Glitter
Mildew - Deep Grass Green
Oil Slick - Black with Silver Glitter
Love all four shades - they work extremely well with my medium skin tone and they will look awesome on light and deeper skin tones too ! Overall very easy, very versatile shades.
Binge is a navy blue that works well when applied along lash line but stays on the water line for approximately 0.35 seconds. The shade is slippery and slides off from the waterline onto lash line where it will lay comfortably all day long. I used it on my Avatar movie makeup look.
Crash - gorgeous. gorgeous. gorgeous. It looks great with my brown eyes and I get the feeling it will be even better on girls with green eyes. The silver glitter gives it a little more punch that a regular plum liner. The glitter is not invisible.L to R : Binge, Oil Slick, Mildew, Crash
Mildew - the shade I see myself using the most. Try it and you will agree that a combo of brown eyes + green liner is better than Bacon + scrambled eggs ! If you are new to colorful eyeliners get this one.
Its subtle, its fun
its not black or brun
read fun as foon and it'll rhyme.
Oil Slick - the only way grease is ever sexy...other than when its on a hot auto mechanic on TV with killer abs.
However, hot auto mechanics with killer abs and sexy grease are a myth. They dont exist in real life.
Oil Slick slips off from the water line too but it has the perfect texture and color to do a smokey eyeliner look. Just line your upper and lower lash line with it and gently run your ring finger over it to smudge it out for a super sexy look ! The glitter again is not super subtle . It is not micro glitter. It will be noticed.
I'll have a look with with it soon. Its gonna be my birthday dinner look - 5 more days to go and I am not openly excited about turning 26.

Two Easy Ways To Do The Cat Eye Look / Winged Eye Look
We already have the technique part of the crazy popular cat eye look nailed. Its been archived in the history pages of this blog and can be found here along with steps on how to handle liquid eyeliner here
Today lets talk about the wands you need to create the look. The wand that will take you to great heights.
Well, as high as an eyeliner can go.
And always remember - The wand chooses the witch.
Witches & Wizards, I present to you the LORAC - Front Of The Line Pro Liquid Eyeliner Pen ($22) and Milani Eye Tech Liquid Eyeliner ($7).
Both these eyeliners are designed like a pen so we can easily draw the line on our eyes. No more dipping in and out or having to deal with solidifying liquid eyeliners. These are the Nimbus 2000's of the Eyeliner world.
Wait, isn't Nimbus the broom ?
Sign I must stop with the Harry Potter references.
Like I said, the wand chooses the witch.
(There I go again ! Somebody stop me. Please !)
This is a look where I used the LORAC - Front Of The Line Pro Liquid Eyeliner Pen in Dark brown. For day time and for a look as dramatic as the cat eye, I prefer using brown over black. It balances out the drama and doesn't look out of place.
Or something like that.
The LORAC pen has a very very thin brush tip. The brush glides over your skin and leaves a line as thin as you want. Of course we can go over and thicken it, if needed. The staying power is brilliant. It wore well for at least 10 hours and will stay on longer if I didn't wash it off.
The Milani Eyetech eyeliner on the other hand has a felt tip. The pen gives out highly pigmented deep black intense color. Unlike many other liquid eyeliners the color remains just as intense throughout the day without any cracking or peeling. It wears very well, just as well as the Milani Infinite Liquid Eyeliner as long as no water touches it. though its said to be waterproof - it comes off the moment water touches it.
One question I always get asked is " can you recommend a really really black eyeliner that stays put". This is it . Its intense and long wearing and cheap !
Personally I prefer the brush tip over the felt tip. Since my eyes are a bit on the smaller side, I like to keep the eyeliner very thin. And over time with practice my hands have turned pretty steady and I love painting my eyes with a thin brush. But if you have an unsteady hand or an issue with lines going wonky - the felt is recommended.
So, there you have it two wands to create the perfect cat eye look.
The question begs to be asked : Which wand chose you ?
In Other News ...
How was the weekend y'all ? Mine was mystical, magical, filled with wands and brooms and witches and wizards and fun schools. I saw the first three Harry Potter movies !! They are pretty good !
Yup, never seen any before. I am cool like that. I stay away from trending topics.
And then I have nothing to talk about.
And then eight years later I catch up on all of it.
By then its not the trending topic anymore. But I'm gonna make it one now.
Tell me, you like Harry Potter ? You read the books ? Seen the movies ?
